Background
Founded in 1949, HCT has grown from a small group of theatre enthusiasts into a vibrant cultural institution, staging 10 to 12 productions annually. Under the leadership of experienced professionals, HCT remains a cornerstone of artistic expression and community connection.
In addition to our cultural work as a theatre, HCT is also the custodian of a historic cornerstone of our community, the former Hickory Municipal Building. The building has always been the performance home of the theatre and in 1988 was granted full use of the building, in exchange for keeping the facility maintained. In 1991, HCT was instrumental in getting this landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
